Upgrade Inquiry

Go to solution Solved by RONOTHAN##,

The only two I'd consider here are the 9400F or going with a 9700f instead. No real reason to upgrade your motherboard, 10th and 11th gen aren't that big an increase in single core to make it worth while buying a new mobo.

You could also get the faster RAM for your setup, but just the CPU should give you enough.

Hey guys,

So this is my first post here and I just have a quick question, my PC specs are:

I3 9100F

Crucial 2x8 2666

GTX 1650 Super

Gigabyte H310M

So my issue is in some games the CPU basically hits 99% and in some cases it even takes parts of a second to load some textures.

I'm thinking of upgrading the CPU and my options are the following:

1- I5 9400F and keep the same Mobo ( it's dirt cheap here )

2- I5 10400F + new Mobo

3- I5 11400F + new Mobo and 2X8 3200 RAM kit

All I do on my PC is basically game, I might do a little bit of recordings but not that much.

Sorry for making the question a lil bit long and thanks in advance.

The reason I mentioned the 10th/11th gen is that I wanted to be " future proof " plus that I will probably end up selling the CPU plus Mobo as a bundle if I upgrade both of them.

You'd still be buying into a dead-end platform. Even selling your current stuff as a bundle, it would cost more than what you would for buying a 9400f or maybe even a 9700f.

This makes total sense buddy, the only reason I thought of going to a higher generation is windows/games support but if you think it doesn't really matter then I would probably go with 9400F since it really fits with my budget.

Yeah, Intel 8th gen through 11th gen are all very similar architecturally, including with the chipset. It's to the point where the only difference between the 9900k and the 10700k is the socket and the way the heat spreader is mounted to the die.

Besides, if it did make a difference, by the time you'd notice you'd be wanting a system upgrade anyway and better off getting new of the current generation.

Yes, I've watched a lot of comparisons and that's really true, even the 12th Gen isn't that different especially when it comes to the Low end ones.

12th gen at least has something kinda difference since it's heterogeneous, plus the P-cores are a decent step up compared to 11th gen Intel. That said, unless you've got a 3090, there isn't really a reason to upgrade from one to another.
