So I was wanting to upgrade the ram from my work pc,  when they decided to go full remote, they sent us home a HP ProDesk 400 Mini G3,  (ugh, i know)  and it came with 8gb ram, locked at 2444mhz.  I bought a stick of 8gb to up it to 16gb, same speed ofcourse, made sure its compatible via the hp website.  2400mhz 1.2v in a 1x8gb form factor. HP's website for the Prodesk 400 G3 mini says it should be good to go. When installed, I get a bios warning light of 3 long reds, 2 short whites. HP's website for the user manual says 3.2 is a memory failure indicator.

OK, no biggie, I re-seated the ram, SODIMM is annoying with that, nope, same thing. I thought ok, ill update the bios, maybe the bios wont allow for both sodimm slots to be used. Nope, PC has the latest bios as of April 2021.

So I did my IT voodoo dance as i booted it up again after re-seating it, and sending it positive vibes, and nope, same 3.2 error. So I took it out and ofcourse pc boots up perfectly fine in 8gb form factor.

No idea why, or what was causing the error now, I am just wondering if something with the bios is locked to prevent any changes, since it is a work pc.  I dont know if its possible to lock down a hardware change via bios or something from IT before they handed out the pc?  In any regard,  Im not sure If I am missing something or why it wont work.   Feel pretty dumb to be honest.   Its just Ram, I bought it on amazon and clicked download now, why it no work 😞

Have you tried putting the new stick in slot 1 and the original in slot 2? HP generally likes SK Hynix or Samsung dimms, are the sticks identical sticks?

i have not, i can try that

and no the OEM brand sticker was some random company never heard of,  I bought a crucial sodimm

Could you provide a photo of the individual dimms? It may be that it is expecting matching sticks and doesn't post if they aren't matching.
