Hello everyone, this is my first post to tech tips and I'm in dire need of help. It's currently 1:25 AM and p have spent 7 hours trying to figure this out.

I recently upgraded my desktop with a new motherboard and CPU, an Asus and an i7. After some stupidity on the hardware end of things I finally got it to boot... To a black screen. I can only force the bios open by removing the small chip inside the motherboard and booting the bios from start.

The bios currently detects my two HDDs and the USB Mass Storage Device I use to hold my schoolwork.

At first I was having issues with Asus wanting to load windows install from a USB, now that's not the issue, I got it to boot into the USB.

Now the issue is that windows says that the only device I have that it can be installed onto is my USB mass storage device, but I want to install it to one of my HDDs. It's not reading either of them either in the installation process nor the command promt under "list disks". Please help, please, I'm pulling my hair out here.

Just now, incepted said:

Are the HDD's configured in RAID, if that's the case Windows may require additional drivers. Please make sure that the SATA mode in BIOS is set to AHCI.

From what I can see they are configured in raid, how would I go about changing that? Would I need to reformat them?

You should be able to change them to AHCI in BIOS, but doing so will render all data in the disks unusable.

If you have access to another computer, you should be able to copy RAID drivers of your motherboard to the Windows Install drive and load them on the disk selection screen.

Exactly this" You should be able to change them to AHCI in BIOS" I recently had it with a Dell laptop and it would boot the windows USB BUT when trying to install windows it would not see the drives as it was in RAID mode which when installing windows it doesnt support for some reason.

I'm fine with that, everything is backed up to my USB mass storage. How could I change the drivers to AHCI? I'll. Play around with it after I get home but if you know how before-hand that'd be appreciated. My mother board is the Asus Prime Z590-A.

I changed the bios to AHCI it loaded my original windows desktop without issue, only problem is it won't detect my ether net but I think that's the drivers on the new motherboard. I'll install them and update as soon as I find out if everything is working.
