Is it possible to have black-frame-insertion in software?

I have a 160Hz monitor. I wouldn't mind gaming at 80Hz with reduced motion blur if it's possible. I know Lightboost is a G-Sync technology that has it, but I don't have any monitors with that feature nor would I buy one (they're too small and too low-res).

I'm curious if there are any software solutions that black-out every other frame so I could play with reduced motion blur.
