I’ve recently purchased the 6700xt Red Devil but when ive installed it the ezdbug light on the motherboard shows a cpu fault when I try to boot and won’t load into windows.

similarly I recently returned what I believed to be a faulty 3060ti gaming z trio as I was getting 10-20fps in apex and halo infinite on 1080p medium.

now that I’ve had two cards I’m concerned the issue is with my current setup but I cannot diagnose what:

  1. ryzen 5 5600x
  2. B550m mortar
  3. 2x8 gb 3200 ram sticks from hyperx
  4. Kingston 512gb nvme hard drive
  5. Fractal design 650w gold rated sfx psu
  6. A total of 9 case fans and the Galahad 240 aio house in the o11mini

The current gpu I have is the rx480 4gb and with a fresh install of windows, updated bios and drivers is running better than ever. In addition I used the ddu utility to completely remove all drivers upon each installation. I’ve also tested a number of bios settings to see if that resolves the issue but no luck. In addition I removed the power to the fan and rgb hubs to minimise the load on the psu to see if that is the issue.

The Red Devil specifies a 700w psu ( which I know I’m short on) and the 3060ti gaming z specifies 650w so I’m concerned that this may be the issue but I don’t want to pay out for a new sfx psu without verifying the issue. The Red Devil appears to be functioning (fans spin and rgb functions) but I’m not getting a display output and it’s causing the mobo’s ezdbug light to show a cpu fault.

I have some old components I could build a second test computer for but if it is a psu issue it’s only a 550w bronze unit so I don’t think that would cut it.

Can anyone offer any advice as to how I might troubleshoot further. Or have I just been really unlucky and had two faulty cards from two separate retailers/manufacturers.
Thanks

If it is lighting up the "CPU" LED, then the problem with the CPU, not the GPU.

If the problem with with the graphics card, the "GPU" / "VGA" LED will light up.

The case fans / hub shouldn't draw much power.

It would be around 20W ~ 35W for 9x case fans.

The 6700XT Red Devil *requires* 2x PCI-E 8-pin connections from the motherboard.

Make sure those are connected.

Also make sure it is going into the PCI-E slot properly.

The 6700 XT is much bigger than the RX-480, so make sure you have enough space for it inside your computer chassis.

Also, what version BIOS are you using with your MSi B550M Mortar motherboard?

If it is too out-of-date, you may want to consider updating it.

As BIOS updates can also add support for newer HW (i.e. GPUs), and improve system stability, etc.

Bios is the latest version, both pci cables are connected from the psu and the gpu is seated correctly.

the cpu fault light only shows with this card plugged in and not with the old gpu.
