Hdd noise

So, i build a Chia rig, Frctal Define 7XL (thanks LTT for the case suggestion) , 200tb 32g ram, R9 3900x and 2 dell perc h310 in IT mode to handle the drives (can see the rig here if you want https://www.reddit.com/r/chia/comments/qx3red/finally_got_my_rig_up_and_running/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share). Now I'm looking for some help, like the title says I'm having noise problems with the hdd, the drives are brand new Exos X16 16TB, the trays have anti vibration rubber and the HDD are tight on them so the noise is not from vibration. If I put my fingers on the drives I can fell them rumping up and down when I hear the noise. I tried power management and Hdparm to stop spin down and needle parking but without any success, also using SEAGATE Seatool I get the info that (all good with the drives) advanced power management is not supported on this drives. Any way to work around this? I can't take the rig out of my room.

So pretty much every case I've built in any time recently that uses those slide in trays for hard drives I always add a couple layers of double sided tape to. The the 3M moulding tape adds thickeness, and its "foam" like so it dampens. The outermost layer of tape I don't peel as I don't want the tray to stick. I just want the tray to be a bit tighter fit in the case.  Some cases are good with two on each side, some need a third piece on one side. 

 

Usually this helps with any vibration type noises. Now if it's just regular hard drive noise, well you may just be out of luck. Hard drives make noises.  You can add some dampening material to the case if you want. However it should be too bad. I don't find my WD Gold drives that annoying / loud.

The case and trays are strong and have rubber stands off anti vibration, so the noise is not from vibration on thelly tray.

So do my Phanteks, and if memory serves me correct so did my son's Fractal. Does the noise quiet down if you place a finger on tray / drive ? 

 

As I meantioned if it's really just hard drive noise,  then you're more looking at things like dampening material. You are dealing with a enterprise drive that will be a bit louder, and is generally supposed to be spinning all the time. They are meant to be data center drives.

 

You don't have a video or recording or the noise? My gold drives make the typical hard drive seeking / writing noise a lot, but not really a ramp up or down sound. Not that I can ever hear. The seeking noise isn't super loud, but it's there.

Mining on 14 or so HDDs simultaneously is going to be extremely loud no matter what you do.
