Hi, i want to OC my cpu a bit and would like to ask few options that i see on the gigabyte bios .

i see on the core voltage 4 options :

auto

adaptive vcore

override vcore

fixed vcore

i would like to know what is the difrences beatwen fixed vcore to override vcore since i heard that override vcore use to be also a fixed vcore option .

second after i find the right voltage in override or fixed vcore i would like to go adaptive vcore , anyone have a guide how to set the settings in adaptive vcore?

since i see its not that simple as override and fixed vcore.

also do i need to tuch other options on the bios for OC beside this options that i said for OC ?

since there are so many settings in the bios that i got no idea what they are doing .

Thanks for the help

There should be numerous guides.  I take it you didn’t find anything useful in the previously published stuff in the pinned posts in that section? . every generation and every manufacturer is different though so without knowing what is being overclocked it’s near useless.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

i didnt find about the 12600k cpu and z690 platform

auto = Intel's VID table (Frequency to voltage table, pretty dumb) but with mobo maker's extra tuning to their liking.

fixed = manual mode, voltage will and should drop from idle to load. You need to adjust loadline calibration (LLC) to stop it from dropping too much, I'd let it drop at least 0.05V.

override = same as fixed, but if you see both available then it probably differs by only following your settings when frequency is above stock settings

offset (should be here, you cant find it?) = add or subtract a certain constant voltage from what auto settings use, say +0.1V when auto setting applies 1.4V will give you nearly 1.5V (voltage does drop a bit under high loads)

adaptive = offset but only when frequency is above stock settings

I recommend using adaptive in the long run.
