Hello everyone I recently upgraded my GPU and am noticing the performance is worse. I'm playing on 2560x1080P and using Vsync 60FPS. However I notice I get dips to 30fps randomly.

Current setup:
Ryzen 2700X
EVGA 750W GQ
ASUS X470-F Strix
FlareX 3200MHZ 16GB
Red Devil Ultimate 6900XT

So with Vsync on, if your GPU can't maintain 60fps it'll drop to 30 so that explains that. Disable Vsync, problem solved.

As for why you're not able to maintain 60fps, are you playing highly CPU bound games? That's a relatively low resolution for a 6900xt which is going to leave the older 2700x having to keep that GPU fed. This can lead to a potentially unpleasant experience in game.

Can you monitor CPU / GPU usage, temp and clockspeed over time (graphs) while in games? That would likely be the quickest method for determining what's going on for sure. I like HWinfo for this but MSI Afterburner also does this quite well.

Maybe the GPU is freaking out by the missing power cable

No worries.  That picture was taken during the build process 🤣 I have 3 separate psu cables feeding it.

As for games I mainly notice it in PUBG. Frequent stutters and dips below 60. Occasionally happens in Cold War too

I did use DDU. I came from a 1080TI. Used it to uninstall my Nvidia driver and then proceeded to reboot and install the Radeon software.

 Just to re-iterate...

We'd likely immediately see the issue.

Upgraded from the 2700X to the 5800X. FPS is more steady! Also noticed using vsync at 60FPS 1080P makes the card perform worse since it's not maxing out.

picie power cable is missing.  not recommended at all.  you need to use 3 *seperate* pcie power cables.

yeah because its a 4k card, totally unsuitable for 1080p 🙍‍♀️

but on the bright side, being completely underutilized may prevent it from burning up since you're still missing at least one pcie power cable 🔥
