RANDOM HARD DISK RELATED ERRORS

Go to solution Solved by DASARATH B,

Hey everyone. I guess I fixed my PC. The problem was caused by a failing PSU. I installed a new one and my PC is working fine. Thank you @StDragon for your help.

Hi everybody. I've been getting weird errors and problems with my computer for the past six months. I've tried installing Windows 7,10,11 in it. Only Windows 7 seems to be stable. Windows 10 & 11 keep throwing random hard disk related errors while the hard disk passes all the tests in Crystal Disk Mark and the manufacturer's diagnostic tool. I've also tried installing Zorin (a Linux Distro) and it seems to be stable. Though my hardware isn't officially supported for Windows 11, I installed it.

And the major problem that I'm facing is the computer often crashes and I perform a clean install. When I do so, Windows 10/11 will send me a notification as "Scan drive for errors" and I will let it do. It will be stable for one or two days and then it will give me a notification "Restart to repair drive errors" and I also let it do. After that my PC won't boot.

It will give the following BSOD "Your computer ran into a problem and we'll restart for you. If you call a support person..... STOP CODE : NTFS FILE SYSTEM" and it goes into a restart loop with the same error.

And somehow I managed to get into windows and it shows me an error "We can't sign into your account" and signs me in with a temporary profile.

The above errors only occur in Windows 10/11 but nothing happens in Windows 7. I just want to know why these things happen.

My PC's config :

Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-B250M-D2V

Processor : Intel i3-6098p

Hard Disk : Seagate 1TB

RAM Sticks : 4GB ADATA 2400 Mhz and 8GB ADATA 2666Mhz (I know its bad to mix memory but I couldn't find anything else available)

PSU : Prime Source [Model No. : PST-XS-300FC] (I'm not sure of the wattage)

I suspect RAM errors, specifically because you've mixed DIMMs.

Let that run multiple passes to confirm.

Would it be ok if I remove the 8GB Stick and see if the error occurs again?

Nothing wrong with conducting a process of elimination. But running Memtest86 is cheap and easy to do. You just need a spare USB flash drive to format. You then boot from it and into Memtest86. Watch the video in that link.

You can also test each stick separate or together with Memtest86 too.

I let Memtest run for almost 4hrs and it didn't detect anything. I just noticed another problem. My PSU fan is running slowly and making a lot of noise. But it restores back to its original state after about 5mins.
