Not. You either have to get the usb wireless dongle or get the controller specifically for pc.

I'm not so sure about this. I got both - an X360 controller for Windows (white one with receiver) and a black X360 controller that I got with my X360 Elite - and the X360 Elite controller does not pair with the receiver. I don't know if it's an issue with different receiver generations - as far as I remember the white one came out long before the black one - but it does not work with my X360 Elite controller.

I have a 360 controller for Windows (white one) and my brother uses a receiver with the black 360 controller bundled with his 360 that he bought in 2011. He has no problem getting it to work.

not the original ones they actually allowed you to play wired. It was microsoft trying to get you to use them on your pc. All you have to do it take a look at the x360 controller drivers built into windows.

I dunno about the newer ones. I have the wired controller (black) for Windows and wireless (white) for Xbox (from 2007). The white does not work on Windows with the included cable.

Stupid me. Got it working. Forgot to press the little button between RB/LB. Works just fine.

Have you tried these steps?

  1. Connect the receiver and press the button on it until it flashes.
  2. Press the XBox button on the controller until it lights up.
  3. Press the little button on the back of the controller between LB/RB, next to the port for the charging cable.
  4. The light on the controller should stop circling and only one quarter of the ring should light constantly.

This worked for me.
