It could also be a higher binned chip. 

Older Extreme core 2 duo/quad chips were hardly worth their price increase.

Oh also, an unlocked multiplier would definitely help you with OC, but it'd just help with fine tuning really.

That's a sweet CPU. Run the shit out of it. You should be able to do 4500 or so. Probably better if you have the cooler for it.

Well, I don't have either the Core 2 Quad or Extreme.

However Ive got its little brother the Q9550. It holds up very well on Linux.

I have an X3360 that I run at 4100ish, I run out of FSB on my X48 board. I would have been happy with 500fsb.. the board will do 600FSB 24/7 with a Wolfdale :sadface.
