CPU without thermal paste running fine

NEVER RUN A PC WITHOUT THERMAL PASTE. and you might not have the cooler on right or the past isnt on well.

use a pea sized dot and put the cooler on it...dont spread it cause it causes air bubbles in the paste which will effect the cooling
