I looked online for a decent comparison of the speed of each of these ssd interfaces and didn't come up with a really good answer so I figure I would ask some of the people here.

I am looking at a couple of MOBO's and one has the option for using an mSATA SSD and another has an M.2 SSD connector.

I see that the m.2  accommodates 4 lanes of PCI-e, would this then be faster than an mSATA ssd?

I thought it would be nice to put a small 60gb or so SSD in this m.2 or mSATA port and keep only the OS and office programs on it, then utilize SATA III 6g SSD's for normal programs.  So which is the faster interface, m.2 or mSATA?

Thanks in advance!

mSATA = SATA III speeds

m.2 = PCIe2 x4 speeds so 2GB/s if i calculated correctly

is it a poor idea to have a dedicated m.2 ssd for OS and basic functionality programs? would it be worth the extra $?

if you have the money, but dont have an SSD, its good. if you already have an ssd, you wont notice the difference

This set of questioning may have solved itself. I cannot find a single M.2 ssd that is short enough to actually fit in the Asus Maximus VI formula's slot without hitting the VRM cooler.

Thanks for the info though.

ah well, get a SATA one, you will still be amazed by the speeds
