I was wondering if some of you played the original first then played the sequel.

If so did you have a difficult time adjusting to the different controls?

For me, I rather enjoyed the originals game's controls over the newer title.  Although, I just played through the prologue in high hopes I get a grasp of the new controls.  I'm not saying everything is foreign to me, the same idea is still there with I can only assume 'improvements'.

If you never played the Witcher series, ever have difficulty adjusting to different titles within the same series?

Well, they are nothing alike. The Witcher 2 features a much more energetic combat. The first game was just clicking and it became quite boring for me, especially at the end when I was just destroying everyting and not even getting hit. It was more of an RPG. The second game however is more like an action game. It feels a lot more like a game to me, and I like it a lot more. You do need a lot of practice though, I played on hard and got my ass kicked a LOT. Then when they introduced the "dark" difficulty I played that as well because it has special loot. By then it really wasn't that hard. You just have to run around a lot and kill the weaker guys first because they can kill you easily if the get in a hit to your back (200% damage I think). But it goes both ways, so it's pretty tactical. I didn't really use potions however, they didn't last long and I didn't notice the effects anyway. In the first one I liked that you can just drink mid combat.

"Same rules since the first man picked up the first stick and beat the second man's ass with it."

I agree with JcGross, I got bored with the first one because of the whole wait and click wait and click. It's not like your average fight motions. There were parts of the game where I would consistently hit a target and it wouldn't do anything. For me the biggest downside was having to switch between battle modes such as griffin, wolf, etc. made it harder to "stay in the game" I had to focus more on that than actually playing. But that's just me. I felt Witcher 2 was much better, and can't wait to play the 3rd.

Believe it or not but I really liked the first games combat and when the second was released it threw me off a bit, especially seeing as there was no tutorial on release but after messing around with the mechanics and rebinding the controls to something more comfortable it was a lot easier to manage. Overall I think the second games combat suites the series better although it does need some tweaks, hopefully that should have ironed out all the problems by the time Witcher 3 comes out.

As a side note am I the only one who thinks that the inventory menu in the second game was horrendous, the first game did it soo much better.

I liked the combat and different camera view on the first game. I have close to 60 hours of gameplay into it, but the story felt a little weaker than the second game.

The second game did take me sometime to adjust to the different controls, but I quickly forgot all about it because the story was much more involving.
