Someone asked me to fix their laptop (HP 15S-FQ1400ND). I did some testing and the led goes on, but the camera gives no signal (black screen). Just used a Linux USB, but that gives no signal either. BIOS diagnostics give a pass. Is there anything I can try or should I just try to find a replacement the camera?

The problem is it’s a camera.  Might be turned off in software somewhere. There are a lot of privacy things that turn off cameras to prevent hackers from looking through them.  Might want to confirm one of those isn’t in place first.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

That's what I thought too, but it happens in both the installed Windows and my Linux USB. There isn't any settings in the BIOS either. Currently assembling it again, saw a cable that seemed a bit loose, so hopefully that's the issue.

Ah.  Misread.  I thought it was a Linux only test
