8-inch tablet

I am in the market for a good 8-inch tablet and just noticed the new iPad mini announcement today. I have been running 8-inch android tablets for the last few years and am wondering if making the jump to iOS is worth it. 

 

Battery life, size, and responsiveness are important to me.

 

Can anyone think of an 8-inch that is actually good on the Android side?

I can't think of any Android tablets that are even close to being as good as iPads in terms of overall experience. Sure, some have equally nice hardware, but the software is trash on all of them.
