Very Stupid Question.

I'm looking to install MSI Afterburner however I saw a story a few months ago stating that bad actors were using a malicious site to host malware laden versions of Afterburner. I shouldn't have anything to worry about if I were to dl Afterburner from MSI's site itself (https://www.msi.com/Landing/afterburner/graphics-cards), correct?

Correct. Download it directly from MSI and should be no problems.

The MSI download should be just fine. You can also right click the download button, select copy link address, and then run it through an online virus scanner (https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/url). The MSI link should be fine, but if you are worried about other downloads in the future, this may be a good resource.

I usally trust manufacturers site, but if you don't know use a online virius scanner.
