Resolution & G-Sync Ultimate Question~

I've bit the bullet and ordered myself the 34GP950 Ultrawide Monitor.

Coming from a Asus VG248QE 24 inch.

By comparing both, it appears that the 34Gp950 is better in all regards besides Response-Time?. Also, my current monitor has no VRR support, so I opted to get a nice G-Sync Ultimate monitor. I also checked a website that shows the size comparisons and it seems that the 34gp950 screen will have a bit more height as well of course, the length. So moving onwards towards a bigger monitor is going to be new to me.

Seeing how I am coming from a 1080p monitor. Will the 3440-1440p be more "crisp" / or look better overall? I hope in the end, I can see a more beautiful display when I turn it on and play some games.

Also, about the g-sync ultimate. Seeing how it as a module inside, do I still need to go into the Nvidia Control Panel and enable the G-Sync for it to work?

-- I'd like to ask another question if anyone knows. If I were to enable g-sync in the Control Panel, and choose "Fullscreen" Does it work also with "Fullscreen Borderless?"

Thanks ❤️

Generally yes, but crispness also has a lot to do with the amount of pixels per inch (PPI). That's why 1080p on a 24" screen looks different than 1080p on a 27" screen. Personally I think the latter looks blurry. 1440p is a nice resolution for 27" though, and 34" ultrawides are about as high as a 27" 16:9 monitor, so TL;DR yes it should be more crisp 🙂

Seems like the NCP should have options for enabling it for fullscreen and/or fullscreen borderless. If set to one, it won't work for the other to my knowledge.

34" ultrawide is the same as 27" widescreen, just with more width. So, yes, going from a 24" widescreen will give you a little more vertical height and a lot more width.

As far as sharpness goes, that's a function of pixel density, or how tightly packed the pixels are in the available screen size. Your current display is about 92PPI, while the 34" ultrawide is about 110PPI. So, yes, more dense and therefore more "sharp", but not dramatically or perhaps even noticeably so.

Thanks for the replies.

As for, "First-Time Setup". Can anyone recommend me a few steps? As a monitor that comes with newer technology, than what I have. I'm unsure on what really to do.

I guess as from what I can tell, ill start by doing these:

1. Make sure firmware or whichever is up to date.
2. Enable G-Sync Ultimate in Nvidia Control Panel (Via Fullscreen). “Does it also work in Fullscreen Boarderless?”
3. Enable over-clock to get the 180hz.
4. Maybe set Local Dimming to Aggressive?

Though I am unsure on which preset I should set it for, I know the monitor is calibrated out the door from what I read. But I assume if I'm gaming, I set it to Gamer 1? Though, no idea if I should mess with any color settings etc on that preset.

It has more pixels per inch. So yes, it will look sharper.

You have to enable G-Sync in NCP no matter what VRR monitor you have. Sometimes it's enabled by default when a native G-Sync monitor is connected, but i would take the extra 10 seconds and make sure it's enabled.

Fullscreen only works in fullscreen. Borderless won't work with VRR if you choose this setting. However there is no reason i know of to not choose "Windowed and fullscreen" in NCP.

Current tech IPS monitros are as fast or sometimes even faster than TN monitors, especially the TN's that are a few years old. Your new monitor will be a significant upgrade in every way possible.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.
