"Windows failed to start" while using VirtualBox

BeornBear

I have a new HP Pavilion gaming PC. I am attempting to install Windows Server 2016 within Oracle Virtualbox. However, I get an error "Windows failed to start" while using VirtualBox.

I attempted these links. However, it did not work to resolve the issue.

In BIOS, VT is enabled. In Windows Features, Virtual Machine Platform and Windows Hypervisor Platform are enabled.

I am able to install Manjaro Linux without any issue. Does anyone have any suggestions?! I am running Windows 10 Home.

@BeornBearI agree, I would just go to the Windows Evaluation Center / sign in with your Microsoft account and download a fresh copy of the ISO.

Always a good idea to get in the habit of taking a hashsum of downloaded ISOs and compare to the hashsum provided by the ISO provider (in this case Microsoft).

Couple of ways to do this in Windows...

https://www.howtohaven.com/system/how-to-hash-file-on-windows.shtml

(scroll down to: How to Hash a File in Windows)

https://www.howtogeek.com/67241/htg-explains-what-are-md5-sha-1-hashes-and-how-do-i-check-them/

There are also 3rd party tools to do this:

https://www.raymond.cc/blog/7-tools-verify-file-integrity-using-md5-sha1-hashes/

If the hashes do not match, you immediately know the download was corrupted or you have bad RAM or something. This saves time wasted trying to troubleshoot these types of issues. If the hashes match, then there is some other cause.

I ended up downloading the Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016 ISOs again. I think that these ISOs became corrupted on my external hard drive. It did work on my older PC. I run VMs in Oracle Virtualbox for labs.

I do the same. VMs are very useful. VM Ware has some nice products/features but since VirtualBox is free, that's really cool!

I am contemplating on purchasing VMware. Alternatively, I would like to use hyper-v. I have Windows Home. I would need to upgrade to Windows Pro. Do you use VM Ware?!
