i’ve got a family member that has a really old dual core or quad core, i’m not really sure but i think its a dual  core, he has like ddr2 ram like 4/8 gb and just a horrible overall pc.

so im tired of not being able to play runescape with him properly since his computer always has issues while we’re trying to do something in game.

he also wants to stream but he can’t obviously. and play bf5 with me

should i wait for 12th gen intel or what? and trust me runescape 3 is a very demanding game… and so is battlefield

i’ll give him one of my 2080 strix because it already paid itself off

ill dump in a 1000gb hdd because i use a hdd myself, i’ll give him a corsair 5000x that i have laying around

as for ram 32x2 whatever i find on sale, hopefully some royals

so that leaves us with the cpu and motherboard which well it has to support pcie 4 and it has to be 8 cores or more

not really sure if i should wait for 12th gen intel or idk?

i think 11th gen was such a huge disappointment that 12th gen has to be amazing

runescape 3

You know this game has a mobile app? It runs on phones. The game isn't that demanding.

For PCIE 4 and 8 or more cores though, a MPG B550 Gaming and a 5800x will do just fine. That being said, if you're giving them a 2080 they can encode with that and get by more than fine with a 5600x and the same motherboard

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

Why wait for 12th gen? Even a 10700k would be more than he more than likely needs.

It sounds like Ryzen would actually suit their needs better. Why not go for that?

oh yea definitely but you know how it is every i5 gon be better than i9 from 2 gens. i7 gon be better than i9 of previous generation

i myself am probably going to end up getting a 12900k while well cousin will get i5 or i7 depending on price

honestly 11700k or 3700x are both amazing deals atm too but i think 3700x is better cuz of tdp and the fact that it can also mine

that 2080 is really good for mining too and that’s what i primarily used it for but atm i’m switching over to a build of 10 6600xts and 8 3080s so the 2080 well i just don’t really need it because it’s extra

think ima give him a 3700x because in the future he can upgrade to a 5950 when it’s cheaper or i’ll give him a 12th gen

i’m not doing 10th or 11th gen cuz whatever i get you can’t really upgrade in couple years from now while on ryzen you have 3950, 5900, 5950

as for 12th gen well you will definitely be able to upgrade

idk about you guys but 10th and 11th gen were quite disappointing as well as ryzen 5000 series

10th gen don’t have pcie 4, 11th gen clocks and boosts and even cores are lower than 10th then with ryzen well 105 tdp vs 65 for about same performance

i could get him a 1950x and surprise him with the electricity bill rofl

i really wish the 1950x was like 125tdp cuz i would of gotten it

i mean if anyone needs a cheap 16core cpu the 1950x is a great deal

Clock speeds aren't the full story. IPC is. Yes the 5600x tends to beat out or be close to an 11700k, but the 11700k still beats out 9th and 10th gen with slower clocks.

Both companies report TDP differently and 5xxx runs hot from the factory due to PBO. Intel says 65W TDP, but actually the 11700k can hit much higher than that.

All for very little performance gain.

Here's a really good article on why you shouldn't go by TDP ratings given by AMD or Intel.

Couple of things to note about 12th gen intel is that it's a new architecture. There might be issues with the windows scheduler with the new big, little cores scenario. Maybe there won't be, but do you really want to be the "beta tester" for the new system? Current CPU's won't be out of date in 1-2 years anyways and it aging out will really more depend on game selection. Still up to you what you want to do, just some extra thoughts for you to consider.
