Hey all,

I'm planning on building a gaming PC to replace the Lenovo prebuilt that I'm currently running. This is part of a 2-part plan to upgrade my rig as well as my parents' home theatre setup, by upgrading my build and giving them the prebuilt, but this is something I'm probably going to post as another topic. Since GPU prices are still quite high, I plan on reusing my GTX 1050 2GB, as well as my storage drives and peripherals, so this is a tower only build plan. My target budget is $500 CAD, and my ideal form factor is a mini tower. I loosely based the current parts list off of the $500 AMD Gaming PC LTT video, with a few changes:

  • I went for 16GB of RAM instead of 8GB
  • I chose a Ryzen 5 2600 instead of a Ryzen 3 3100, because the 3100 is more expensive on PCPP at the moment for some reason, and also PCPP gave me a compatibility warning about B450 chipsets maybe needing a BIOS update for third gen Ryzen when I tried to select the Ryzen 3 3300X
  • I plan on upgrading the graphics card to something like a 1660 Super when prices are a bit more reasonable/when I have saved up enough money
  • I think the power supply I chose might be a bit overkill, but I'm not sure how much money could be saved by going cheaper
  • I don't know what I should do for extra cooling fans, or whether or not I should even bother with extra cooling fans at this level of hardware, since Linus didn't in his video

Here's the parts list: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/cwy8Dc

Any suggestions or ideas for optimal/better/cheaper parts are greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Bill

It still shows the B450 BIOS update warning. Is that still going to be a problem with this mobo or should the BIOS work?
