NFC Payments

Graham Carter

I've been both an Android and iPhone user for some time now and when I'm out and about, switch between my S21 ultra and iPhone 12 pro max

However when it comes to making contactless payments, the iPhone wins hands down!

When I say "wins" am talking about general reliability of the NFC payment

So for example, when I make a contactless payment with my iPhone, its gets within about an inch from the payment scanner and boom force feedback indicates the payment has been made!

Now with androids in general, you almost have to mush the phone right on top of the payment scanner and do an awkward rub up and down until it scans and takes payment

Anyone else noticed this discrepancy between iPhone and android contactless payments in general?

A question as well, is do apple pay contactless payments use a different type of technology to android or is it all NFC chip based?
