Hey, so i have been building pcs for  a while but only recently have i had a ryzen system. i am curious if i should get a B450 or a X570 (dont say b550 i have a 2700), i do not overclock but i also dont know if b450 will cut it in the long run. any help is appreciated. if you wanna talk one on one with me and figure out my specific needs feel free to add my discord.

If you think you might upgrade at some point to Ryzen 5000 series/you want any of the additional features of X570, then go with an X570, it'll be much less of a headache later. If not, and you don't need the extra features of an X570, then I would go with a B450.

I have a 3900XT on a B550 and I chose that over X570 since I didn't need the features and also most importantly I didn't want a noisy chipset fan.

Yeah then go with the X570. Keep in mind it won't be compatible with the next release of AMD processors. So at most you will be able to upgrade to a 5900x or 5950x (which I assume will remain powerful for a few years).

I don't think it's long time moving forward since 5000 series is the last cpu to use am4

so should i just get a cheap b450 now and then when 6000 drops get that? i assume ddr4 will still be a thing and the cooler compatibility will be the same yeah?

Ryzen 5000 is the last line that will be on AM4. 6000 series will be on a new socket

If you don't plan to upgrade to 5000 series, I would say that's a better choice.

i dont cuz my 2700 is more than enough for my workload at the moment, and i have faith it will get me through college if paired with a decent GPU. (so another 4-5 years)

Well yeah ddr4 will not disappear, but it's probably use ddr5, as for cooling compatibility
