I'm starting up a D&D campaign with some friends and I want to use Discord. Only issue is that I'd really like to mix my desktop audio and microphone to add background music and sound effects.

After searching around, closest thing I can seem to find that gets me close is VB-Audio, but I think I'm trying to make it do something it's not built to do.

I guess the best way to put is that I want to merge my microphone and desktop audio into one feed for discord. Any suggestions?

The only way I know how to do it is mechanically before the audio in using something called a tascam multitrack.  That’s 80’s tech though.  I’m sure there are better solutions now.  I did hear about a piece of software called potato once that someone was doing something with involving discord.  There might be something there, or not.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Voicemeeter Potato or Banana + virtual audio cables should do the job for you. The only thing worth noting is even though you can mix all these things just fine via software or even via a hardware solution, discord itself might not accept music playing etc as it's a voice software.
