Buying a pc..

Go to solution Solved by Bombastinator,

“Used to have” being the operative here.  What’s it got now? A 9700 is 8/8, so gigantically fast for an 8thread cpu, and will game like spit now (assuming it has a decent video card.  The iGPU in that chip isn’t worth much for 3d stuff) as is it doesn’t have the GPU to run any of the things you mentioned. It will need some sort of gpu to do any of it.  Another really big deal is win11 was just announced and if the thing doesn’t meet the requirements for that it’s EOL even as an office machine.  The thing would take a 9800 which would give it 16 threads but you’d need both that and a gpu to make it run future stuff.  Lot of legwork left on that one and the answer might still be “no”

Budget (including currency): $750

Country:

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: overwatch, valorant, Minecraft, apex, cod, ext

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Buying this pc local for $750, is it worth?

NZXT X63 aio, i7-9700k cpu, MSI gaming edge wifi z390 mobo, 750w gold plus psu, G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2 x 16gb. Used this pc for a year and a half. It used to have a 2070 and ran perfectly. All parts can be sold separately. Yes some of the fans are a little dusty; I can clean it up before I sell them if you’d like.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.
