B560 motherboard with Intel NIC?

Hi,

 

Im about to build a NAS that looks like this : 

 

The problem is that the B560 motherboard is hosting a Realtek NIC and from what read this might be a problem with some NAS software. I have found 2 B560 motherboards that do host Intel NIC but they cost 2000 EUR instead of 1000 EUR. A Intel NIC 2.5 Gbits cost about 1000 EUR.

 

Is there a better solution or should I just pay up?

Whta nas os are you using?

 

What speed nic do you need? If you want cheap and fast id get a sfp+ 10gbe nice

 

Most linux distros and windows work fine with the realtek nics.

 

Id get a cheper ssd as thta system doesn't support pcie gen 4.

I am thinking about TrueNAS and when reading the forum it seems like realtek have a bad rep there.

 

2.5 Gbits is what I aim for to transfare files a bit faster in the LAN.

 

What SSD would you recommend?

What will that drive be used for? If its just boot, id just get a cheap drive, as performance won't matter.

 

What hdds are you planning on using? 

 

Id look for a linux based nas os for better nic compatibility You can run zfs on linux for basically the same feature set as truenas.

 

You might as well go sfp+ 10gbe nics. Its faster and about the same price for nics.
