4K TV Recommendation

Hello,

 

I am looking for recommendations for a 60" - 65" inch 4K HDR Smart TV. The use case is mostly watching movies and streaming TV shows with occasional gaming. The budget is at or around $900, no more than $1000. While technologies aimed at improving color gamut, deeper blacks, etc. would be nice; grey/picture uniformity, contrast, minimal backlight bleed, and reliable OS are top priorities.

What level of gaming are you intending to do? Is variable and/or high refresh rate something you want? I personally wouldn't buy a tv without VRR or 120hz these days, but that's just me. Features like that tend to increase the price, but only you can decide what you need.

Doesn't matter. You can't get those features under $1000 anyways.

As far as software goes, you want either an LG with WebOS or something with Android/Google TV (Sony, maybe some others). Everything else is complete crap. However, that's also the easiest thing to fix by just adding an external Android TV box like an Nvidia Shield, so it shouldn't necessarily be the most important factor, unless you just really want to have it all integrated.

 

At your budget, you can only get LED, so HDR isn't going to be perfect, but as long as there's a decent amount of local dimming zones, you can get a passable experience.

For your budget and size desires, I'd be looking at the Hisense 65H8G or Vizio M65Q7-H1. I just got that model of Vizio for my basement and it's a great mid-range set. For more comparisons, check out the sub-$1K Rtings roundup.

 

Now, finding any good TVs in the current market might be your next hurdle...

 

Edit: Looks like the Vizio is at Best Buy for $700. The Hisense appears to not exist anymore. Depending on your location, you might have to make do with whatever is available.
