Hey Guys,

I am thinking to upgrade my current setup. I'm on a very tight budget. I have the following configuration in my mind, and i can't decide which one should I go with.

1.

I5 9400f,

MSI B365m mag mortar,

16GB 2,400 Mhz Ram  (4gb x 4 sticks) (dual channel)

256 gb NVme SSD

2.

I510400f,

Asus H410M-E,

8gb + 4gb 2400 Mhz Ram (don't know what channel it would be, maybe single channel)

240 gb SATA SSD

I will be pairing the config. with an RX570, and CM MWE 550 80 Plus. Will be used mostly for Casual gaming, and office work.

The reason for me being unable to decide is because I will be getting a better motherboard on 9400f, 16gb ram, somewhat faster SSD, and mainly Mobo's VRM won't be of any issue (VRM heating).

With 10400F, I will get hyper-threading, and i know for the fact that this CPU is better than 9400f but I don't know whether this CPU will be of a great pair with H410M due to its VRM. I can't afford a cheap B460M but even if i were able, the said b460m doesn't have a vrm heatsink either.

And the fact that I wont be able to upgrade the ram from 12gb to 16gb any time soon. Will be stuck on 12gb due to budget constraints.

Also, is i3 10100f better than 9400f? I will not be going with an i3 but just want to confirm whether this 4c/8t is better than 6c/6t?

What do you guys think should i go with?

My current Setup:

R3 2200g,

4gb x 2 sticks 2400mhz,

Rx 570

Request You'll to Please do Kindly help me here.

Thank You.

Honestly neither considering you already have AMD board that runs in AM4 socket. What board is it?

I have an MSI A320m Pro vd/s. I had considered Ryzen 5 2600/3500, but the prices are way too high or are out of stock. Like for example I'm getting a 10400f with its basic motherboard at the same cost compared to R5 3600.

Also, the rams prices are for some reason exorbitant.

So, for all the above reasons, I was thinking to shift to team blue this time.

Then ya might as well switch to intel, and keep the RAM. Both are DDR4 platform so you can bring your RAM from your zen system regardless. That cut should let you be able to squeeze a B460 board with a more solid IO and/or a bigger SSD.

you have probably already looked them up but here is the specs on both motherboards.

MSI: Specification MAG B365M MORTAR | MSI Global - The Leading Brand in High-end Gaming & Professional Creation

ASUS: PRIME H410M-E - Tech Specs|Motherboards|ASUS Global

both boards have their good points and bad points with each board having something that the other doesnt have.
