Help me pick different case

Go to solution Solved by Xeonzs,

Hello everyone,

I've been looking for a new case and doing some research, watching some reviews specifically from GamersNexus.

My final picks are either Lian Li Lancool II Mesh or the be quiet! PURE BASE 500DX Window.

Currently I have a be quiet! PURE BASE 500 and it sucks, it's built well but because it's so choked on air the airflow and temps are real bad, taking off the side panel removes 20c load temps and 10c idle temps, removing the the front cover removes another 10 and 5 respectively.

CPU temps are fine really as I run a i5-10600k with a be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4, but the case can't handle the 6900xt temps (had a gtx3090 but returned it as I was not impressed by the real world performance gains for the price versus the 6900xt), under load the card will hit 100C the side panel will be hot and so will most of bottom half of the case air.

I've already added 2x be quiet! Silent Wings 3 PWM 140mm case fan ontop of the stock 2x Pure Wings 2 140mm.
The PW2s are setup as 2x front intake fans.
One of the SW3s is setup as rear exhaust
One of the SW3s is setup as top-front in-take (seemed to help more for temps than having it as top-rear exhaust)

My old case used to be a Cooler Master CM 690 III and even though the fans were louder on paper, it performed well with a 200mm in-take and 120mm exhaust, what helped a lot was that the side panel was also mesh infront of the GPU, so allowed for easy heat venting from the GPU, sadly the front in-take is completely obstructed there by the drive bays.
Besides the front being all steel mesh the side panel was also partially mesh infront of the GPU, allowing for easy exit/escape of the hot GPU air.

Surprisingly that case is A LOT quieter than this "be quiet" case while still managing better temps.

Both the replacement picks seem to be good contenders when it comes to airflow, even though they don't have the sidepanel mesh, at least airflow is not obstructed by drive cage/caddies and have full/partial mesh front.

Thoughts on both of these cases?

Edit:

Found my answer in a review from 2020 April, the Lian Li 2 has better airflow than the pure base 500, but the 500dx still beats it by a lot when it comes to temps.

hey. you cant ask a question and then answer it yourself giving yourself the best answer solution. thats our jobs, LOL

but being serious now, i would also look into the fractal designed meshify series of cases, the corsair 4000D airflow and the corsair 5000D airflow.

Lol yea, didn't think I'd find a good answer that fast 😅

Yea the Fractal meshify ones also came up in the reviews I watched for the above research, there was also a coolermaster one, H500 or something?

i would look at some videos from gamers nexus because they put out more reviews about cases with airflow than most others.
