I'm genuinely at a loss here. I've been tearing my hair out ever since I installed some new RAM I ordered (OLOy WarHawk (4x8GB) 4000 Model MD4U0840180BCWDX).

At first, I thought it was high CPU temperatures - I was already planning on installing some new fans, so I got a new CPU cooler. CPU temps are at an all time low, with it averaging below 40C while idling. GPU is fairly cool, even while gaming. I haven't overclocked anything or set BIOS to anything other than default, except to turn the fans to max considering I don't mind the noise. 1.35v 3800MHz for the CPU, and 1.2v 2666MHz for the RAM is the default.

Yet, no matter what I do or change, the RAM seems to explode in temperature. Whether DOCP is enabled or disabled, or 1, 2, or 4 sticks of RAM is inserted, it inevitably shuts off after a hour of playing games. It's preventing me from attending scrimmages with my team, so I've simply resorted to pointing my personal fan at my RAM when I need to join them.

I know nothing about overclocking. As far as I can tell, my motherboard should support the 4 sticks running at 4000MHz and my PSU is running fine and has enough power to keep everything going. I've tried manually overclocking my RAM, but every attempt so far has failed to even reach BIOS and needs to clear CMOS to boot up, even when using DRAM calculator and going for 3866MHz.

Any suggestions? Should I just return the RAM and get some new ones?

I feel like that's sort of a temporary solution. It certainly shouldn't be getting that hot in the first place, but I didn't even know they mad fans for RAM. Thanks, I'll look into it!

Oh for sure! Memory can run at pretty high temps, but like with any overclocking, cooling needs to be applied.

The reasons vary. Poor thermal conductive tape under the memory heat sinks, poor case flow or perhaps just doesn't flow well near the memory ect ect.

Same rules apply to the VRM package areas of the board. Putting a fan on the VRMs can help reduce mainboard and often times cpu temps also.

Keep cool!! 😎
