Just recently I upgraded from a 1080p 60 hz monitor to a 1440p 144hz monitor which has free sync / gsync compatible. just recently tho when trying to run games not just at 1440p but any resolution now i have been getting weird frame dips. i use to on my 1080p run games like Overwatch at max settings 120 fps consistantly. but now even if i try to lower my graphics to the very minimum. 720p 50% render scale ect i cant get consistant frame rate anymore. when uncaped i still get around 300 frames but very inconsistantly. i have tried v sync, i tried nvidia low latency both enabled and enabled +boost i tried turning off gsync and many MANY other things to the point of power supply to my cpu and gpu. my build is a ryzen 7 2700x with a rtx 2070. i have 16 gb of ram. i also made sure to update all of my drivers and even get clean instilations of them. but it seems that no matter how low i put the settings i can get it to stay consistant. (note most of the games i play are games where the amount of rendering needed is not super consistent like Overwatch when you get in a team fight is alot more rendering then when you are just in spawn or something) and times like that are when most of this stuff happens. but when i set it to a higher frame rate like lets say 240 it will still dip around that 20 fps for a second then go back up. i think it might have to do something with my gpu utilization. because when playing some times its a 50 percent then as soon as a fight starts it needs to start going up to around 70-80. i have checked the power supply i have checked temperatures which are usualy 50-60 c with the base rating being at 80c most of the time not even using the fans at full power. cpu utilization is also usualy only at 20-30% with ample power and low temps aswell. (even tho those games arent realy super cpu heavy). if anyone has any idea for a fix i would greatly apreciate it.

  • 2 weeks later...

I ended up fixing this problem. Alot of it came down to some nvidia settings i accidently messed with when scrolling through the nvidia control panel (be carefull not to scroll and use the side bar because it will just change stuff if your mouse hovers over it) i also reverted some windows settings i changed when i upgraded to 1440p. so if your like me and upgrade to a monitor that has g sync or gsync compatible remember that when you enable it to not use your scroll wheel
