Why does it not support anything older? AFAIK the 900 series and 10-series is technically same except shrunken node so why would it not work with a GTX 970? 🤔

Afaik it does. AMD just wont have technical support outside of the mentioned series of GPUs. 

(Thats how i understood it at least) 

 

We will know exactly how wide the support is when it launches.

While I suspect FSR would work with older GPU's from both AMD and nVidia (like RX 400 series, perhaps GTX 900 series), as GoldenLag has said, we'd only know when it launches. It's great to see AMD extending support (officially) to GTX 1000/Pascal series card owners, I sincerely hope the pickup by game devs improves (it should, seeing how XBOX Series X has RDNA2 GPU's which would benefit from FSR) because it's a win win situation for us gamers.
