Hello I am thinking to get a VR headset mainly to play beatsaber for indoor workout after my backorder form Memory Express  Feb. 8 2021 for my Asus Tuf RTX 3080 oc comes in.

So I have a few questions

1: Oculus quest 2 or Steam Index?

2: if Oculus quest 2 64gb or 256gb?

I am not considering HTC because from my research I am not going to put down USD +$1200 on something this niche. I expected them to release something competitive to Quest 2

I looked up reviews, was trying to find it from the same content creator but in 2021 is Valve index worth the +$700 - $600.

I am leaning towards Quest 2 without any knowledge. So quest 2 questions

Can i run apps on quest 2 just my connecting it to my PC using the link cable and run desktop apps or do I need to buy Virtual Desktop

- If i need to buy Virtual Desktop do could I just buy it of steam and run it like that or do I need to buy it from facebook (i really don't want to give facebook anything I don't have to)

I like detachable cables so is there a good 3rd party Oculus cable (Canada link preferred)

any other peripherals I should look into? (I wear glasses)

Linus made videos but no update on it, that is why I am hesitant to put money into VR. It is amazing tech but it seems very niche and not much else besides beatsaber/ Halflife Alyx that i would want to play on it.(any games recommendation)

Games on my Wishlist waiting for a sale or something.

The Quest 2 is an excellent value proposition and is extremely easy to set up, especially considering you don't have to deal with lighthouses and can use it wirelessly.

The Index gives you better image quality, better tracking quality, and better controllers. It definitely makes up for the $700 price difference, though I would not recommend dumping $1000 into VR unless you're using it constantly.

Since you don't seem to be planning to install games on the Quest, 64gb.

Facebook just released Oculus Air Link to compete with Virtual Desktop. You don't necessarily need Virtual Desktop unless you want 120hz wireless connectivity.

You'll get significantly better image quality with a Link Cable.

No. You can sideload apps, but Virtual Desktop is not a free app. If you want to use Virtual Desktop, you'll need to buy it from the Oculus Store.

I personally use this active USB-C cable from Cable Matters.

I strongly dislike the included strap, and did not enjoy using my own headphones. I ended up with a FrakenQuest, which uses a HTC Vive Deluxe Audio Strap and a FrakenQuest Adapter Kit.

I've seen reports of people scratching their Quest's lenses when using glasses. You'll likely need a glasses spacer, though I have no personal recommendations for you.

If you're looking for just the strap, you want a Quest 2 Elite Strap. Are you planning on using your own headphones? I'd suggest against using the internal speakers, they sound awful.

aren't there issues with this breaking?

Seems so, that's unfortunate. I was not aware of this.

You're not really supposed to, but it is possible.

I do find this a bit of a waste though, considering you're mostly paying for the headphones built into the strap. You may want to look through third party straps instead.
