Cas is important too.  Part of the issue is some motherboards can run with uneven sizes if they use single channel.  Many can’t.  I don’t know if yours will or not.  It isn’t super likely though.  If the original stick is removable you could get another 8g stick of the same speed and cas and it may work, though best chance would be replace both sticks with identical stuff on the QVL list.  It’s a fairly rare machine that can run uneven ram sizes.  When they do it they do it pretty slow. Laptops can be wonky though.  Because they’re single piece things they don’t always have to follow atx protocol and can break rules.  Usually when they do so it’s to make things cheaper for the manufacturer in some way. For all I know your laptop may not even ever run anything dual channel.

Thnx for replies but I got my answers from other sources and they said it can run dual channel with flex mode and also the speeds will be higher

I have Acer Nitro 5 AN515-55 2020 model, it came with 8GB DDR4 3200mhz Ram and the max it can have is 32gb (16x2) max frequency it can run is 2933mhz. So I'm going for an additional 16gb Ram (total 24) will it work? Is there going to be a noticeable difference in performance if the new 16GB Ram is 2666mhz?

I'm studying a designing course so I use all those Adobe / blender maya softwares...? And is 24 gigs overkill, can I go with just 8 GB (Total 16)?

If it’s windows, generally nope. Sometimes it might work and you’d have 24gb all single channel. So more memory but still slow.  It works best if the two sticks are identical so it can be dual channel.  Unless the thing will only do single channel which is a rare and annoying kind of cheapo but not impossible.  If it’s capable of 32gb it implies that the memory isn’t soldered down.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

So like my laptop can run at max frequency of 2933mhz

The default Ram stick is 8GB 3200mhz of company A

The new one is 16GB 3200mhz of company B

So now I wanted to know at what frequency my Ram will run at? Also in dual channel, both the sticks have to be of same size?
