Themal paste turned green

I just upgraded my CPU and I took off the AIO cooler.
On the sides of the cpu block the thermal paste had turned green, I was wondering if it is because the AIO is leaking and the copper rusted(don't know if it's called rusting with copper, but it turns green)
Any idea?

I would be careful. When copper corrodes it turns green. Do you live in a humid area? Also how are your computer's temperatures? Is that AIO leaking at all?
It could be mold or corrosion. It doesn't look like thermal paste. The paste is the white stuff in the middle.

This is almost certainly what it is. Copper corrodes into that color in the presence of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water.

Pretty sure it's thermal paste smushed out to the edge, It sure felt like thermal paste, Thermal Paste mixed with copper corrosion probs

I was scared this was it, so I need a new cooler. Do you happen to know if a Nocuta NH-D15 fits in my NZXT s340?

S340 = 161mm clearance, NH-D15 = 165mm height; would say "probably not".

The block is leaking. Get rid of it.

thats either mold or corrosion of the copper , google "oxidized copper" and you could find multiple examples of what is happening , check thermals or if the cooler is leaking , add some lights to your setup , would help from condensation and mold growing in dark spaces.

Was using an i7 8086k. Now using Ryzen 9 5950x. And mostly, no. But an air cooler is fine for overclocking anyway. The only limit I have for a new cooler is that it can't be taller than 161mm

If you use the second fan that sits right above the ram modules, yes it won't fit. Otherwise, it should fit with the 2nd fan in the middle of the towers.

The rubber seal on the AIO on the coldplate is leaking coolant, creating a chemical reaction (oxidation-reduction; AKA, corrusion) and copper will begin to turn green as a result.

IIRC it's 160mm without, which is close enough that I would be hesitant to outright recommend it without trying myself.

Yeah, it'll just be a tight squeeze depending on how much of a tolerance the case manufacturer put on the case. Perhaps, those that bought the case tried to use one and said it doesn't fit on customer reviews?? Have to research about that.

The d15s specs out to 160mm with fan as opposed to the 165mm of the d15.  The d15s is also offset to the cpu for better clearances. 

 

Scythe ninja 5 is short (155mm) but wide. 

 

Measure twice, buy once.

put in ketchup to clean oxidization , just the copper
