So when i overclock my 9700k to 5.1ghz everything is fine until i lunch a game the overclock comes off by itself and it starts boosting at its stock speeds, does anyone know what i can do to fix that

what's your settings? You oc'd from bios or xtu?

@Ghostly224 Set both turbo power limits sky high. Sounds like your CPU is power limit throttling. The default power limits are not enough for maximum performance.  Also make sure your overclock is an all core overclock. You want the CPU to use the 51 multiplier whether 1 or all 8 cores are active.

all i did was change the core clock to 5.1ghz i didnt do anything else to it.

ugh! that's not oc dude!

Start with xmp 1, disable multicore enhancement, current capability to max, cpu core cache at max (dial in 999999, it'll set it to max against mobo config),
sync all cores, make cpu voltage to manual. Start with the boost clock and the max vcore the cpu drinks in boost clock. Then increase .1 ghz in core and if crashes increase voltage by .05v
Max safe voltage is 1.35v. Don't go beyond that else you'll kill your cpu in the long run. Also any oc over static 80-82C is considered unsafe.
Whatever your cpu holds stable, dial .1ghz down for a stability.

Use cinebench r23 for oc benchmark, prime95 with small fft for stress test to check temps (at least 30 min)

After that, you may try to tweak individual cores for better performance

I use ThrottleStop to set the turbo power limits and the CPU multipliers. You can click on the TPL button to access and make adjustments to the Turbo Power Limits. On the main screen you can push the Limits button to see if there is a reason why your CPU is throttling. You can do overclocking in the FIVR window.

Most people with desktop boards use the BIOS to make adjustments.
