So this is not the basic question about if I can add RAM with different timings together. I know that my MB will automatically slow down the faster modules to the slowest ones.

My question is around the following scenario:

I have ..

  • A Dual Channel Kit of 2x8 GB 3600 MHz 16-16-16-36 Timings
  • Another Dual Channel Kit of 2x16 GB 3600 MHz 16-16-16-36 Timings from the same brand
  • A Motherboard which offers 2 times Dual Channel operation (Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero)

Does it matter in which channels I insert the kits?

Is it better for the OS to insert the greater kit in A2 and B2 like it would be inserted with just 2 sticks? Should the greater kit be inserted to the slots closer to the CPU (A1 and B1)?

Does it even make a difference or will the OS get its ressources as a complete 48GB anyways?

Thanks for your answers :)
