So I've recently built a new pc (minus the gpu) I have 10 i7 10700k and when I run a stress test on cinebench the core temp jumps to 100c in seconds but the socket temps stays as low as 55c as soon as the stress test stops the core temp jumps back down to 40c almost instantly that is on multiform test and when I run on single core the average core temp only goes up to 55c and the socket temp stays at 30c

Is this normal behaviour for the temperatures? I have auto boost turned on, on the motherboard aswell. Thanks for any help!!

Intel can hit 105C before it thermal throttles, but you ideally shouldn't be anywhere near that. What kind of cooling setup do you have? (CPU cooler, case, fans)

I have a tower air cooler and fractal meshify c case and 3 case fans atm, surely if the temp drops down so quickly after the stress test it means the cooling is sufficient though, or is it normal for them to loose the heat that quickly after the test.

Case and fans should be fine. Just making sure you didn't have something with zero airflow there. No tower cooler should really be letting temps hit that high, but what exactly do you have there?

Stupid question, but you did remember to apply thermal paste, right? Even if so, you might not have applied enough, or the cooler fit may not be tight enough.

Its only a cheap ish one for now as was on a jtc video is a vectroo v5

Yh I've got it on haha I could try re seating the cooler and see what happens, maybe the air cooler isn't good enough for running on turbo boost cos it was going up to 4.8GHz, should I turn it off until I cant get my hands on a better cooler? Well thats if re seating it dosnt work

Intel runs hot, in general, so you generally don't want to skimp on the CPU cooler. Reseating may help, but the cooler is probably just not capable of keeping up with it.

That said, synthetic benchmarks like this put more load on your components than you'll typically experience in actual day to day usage. Just monitor the temps during your normal usage for a while. I'd still try to get a better cooler, but you'll probably be fine.

Thanks for your help, I havnt had change to game on it yet so I will see what my temp look like then, but I'll definatly try and get a better cooling solution later, I'll just turn down the auto clock if it still runs hot in the meantime
