I picked up a Corsair CV550 about six months ago, but I won't lie I'd like to switch to a modular supply and lose the excess cables.

I've seen the Core Reactor in 650W for £52, but the 750W is only £64.

I only have a 1660 Super (and a 750ti that runs my second monitor). I don't play many modern games, I like playing and streaming retro stuff so don't ever get to capacity. Generally though, I'm either editing video in Vegas, writing, or image editing in GIMP. So, for the extra £12 is it worth going for the extra wattage?

I used to work as a tech and consultant, now I've become an odd person who plays dress-up and calls themselves a theatre maker.

My Rig: Ryzen 5 3600 | AsRock B450 Pro4 | Corsair Vengence RGB Pro 16GB 3200Mhz | Asus TUF GeForce 1660 Super OC | Corsair Carbide 175r | XPG Core Reactor 750W
Keyboard Corsair K55 | Mouse Corsair Harpoon | Sound AKG 52 Headphones,

If you consider that you REALLY will need it in the future, then yes...

If not... well, no.

That's kind of my quandry. None of us 'know' what we'll need. £12 is like one hour's pay. For that, it's just tempting in case my usage changes, or miraculously GPUs appear and I decide to upgrade in future.

Hmmmm... buy the 750W version if you consider to.

You don't need a 750W PSU. A 650W is way more than enough,

Why do you use both a GTX 1660 Super and a GTX750ti? Do you have more than 4 display?

Three displays currently. When writing, or working on producing shows the extra screens are really necessary for workflow. I could probably run them all out of the 1660, but I don't have DVI output on any of my monitors. They're all HDMI or DP. So, as the 750 would just be laying around doing nothing I may as well have it in the rig than not. It's not like the 750 is worth selling is it?

a DVI to HDMI adaptor should costs like $2. DVI and HDMI are exactly the same signal wise, so you don't need an active adaptor (DP also has a DVI/HDMI and sometimes a VGA mode too)

Not to split hairs, but adapters like that tend to be a bit more over here in the UK. My local indie computer store charges £18.99 ($26.38). Never got round to checking online tbh. Nothing has gone wrong with what I've got, so if it's a choice between buying something from amazon and are selling them for £5.98 ($8.31), making do, or overpaying for an adapter, I'll make do.

To give you an idea I built my current rig in May 2020. Before that I was using an i7 870 from like 2011. It's even still going strong as it got passed to my sister. I'll spend money if I get any improvement or noticeable difference, otherwise why spend money you don't have to?
