I tried Daemon tools a few years ago, cant remember if it was a trial or lite, but it didn't successfully image the disc I was attempting to create.

My main issue is I would like to create an image from the only PC game I have that requires the disc to be inserted in order to play (though, if I can create images of the installation discs too, that'd be great!)

I'm looking for something that will create an image to my desktop or somewhere on my hard drive as well as read that image. The game I'm specifically trying to image is Black & White 2 (Lionhead Studios & EA)

Of course, I'm mainly after freeware but if it comes down to it, I am willing to purchase a license.

Any suggestions?

I use ImgBurn to burn images to a disc or create an image from a disc. I use .img or .iso's to burn the discs and it can make discs into either format IIRC.

I use Virtual Clone Drive to mount ISO's or IMG files as if they are discs in my system even though they are files on my HDD.

Both are free.

Forgot ImgBurn existed. Haven't used it in years! Guess I'll download that again

As for Virtual Clone Drive, how reputable is it? Don't want to go and have it install a nasty PUP or worse on my system.

Did some research on it, seems good. However I can't get it to run the .iso of my game's disc. Well, it'll bring up the 'splash' screen that has options to play, update, etc. But after clicking play, the game doesn't recognize the iso as a disc.

Splash screen:

After clicking 'play':

I'm seeing no options or settings in VCD that'll solve this issue...

Any suggestions?

I would use powerISO, its free to use and has never once given me an error. You just right click the .iso file and hit mount to virtual drive A or F etc.

It might be looking for a certain drive mount letter (i.e. D:) which would make no sense but is possible. Google the issue and see if it comes up with people having a similar problem.

The problem would be: "[insert game title] doesn't see CD even though it's inserted." or something similar.
