I want to use a pair of lan splitters .

There is just one cable from the switch to the garage. I want to use a pair of splitters to merge two 8 pin cables into one, wasting 4 pins each. At the garage the cable is split again, resulting in two half cables. This setup is tried and works, though I don't know why.

What I am planning on doing is feeding PoE through one of them, and I would like to know if that works.

PS this might sound stupid, but one cable isn't meant to be part of the Ethernet network and will be carrying an analog signal. That is why a switch won't do

Please invest in an efficient PSU with >90%.  My favourite is Seasonic, but quality>brand

Switches are so cheap, why go so jank? Is there a specific thing preventing a switch being used?
