Ive had this old pc for quite a while and used it to play games like counter strike source. It ran a pentium processor with the lga 1155 sockets

Ive recently bought an i3 processor, specifically the i3-3240, and attempted installing it. I put it in and closed up the pc and pressed the power button, and it awkwardly beeps over and over again, and nothing happens. Ive tried following most tutorials on youtube, but still nothing has changed.

I then tried putting the old cpu back in as one video explained a bios update is all i need. But then with the old cpu it just beeped differently and didnt turn on either.

What motherboard is it? Not all 1155 systems can run 3rd gen.

Main: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti, 16 GB 4400 MHz DDR4 Linux - Fedora

Idk the specific model, its some stock Lenovo motherboard from some compact thinkcenter

Your motherboard might be restricted to only run with CPUs that originally came with the PC even if the socket and chipset would normally support it (you can check the support list from Lenovo for this one).

The old one not working anymore is weird tho. Check if all your cables and RAM are still properly seated.

If it still beeps you could Google the beep pattern for your specific model, it should tell you what the error is.
