🤔 So I have 3600 mhz CL16 ram, and I'm thinking of manually overclocking it, but I don't have a clue how. Anybody well versed in this? Here is the ram I have.

This is one of the worst kits of memory for overclocking. There has been a lot of issues with users not even able to reach XMP rated speeds with this particular set.

As I've said numerous times, You should have gotten the kit that does NOT have the "C" at the end if you wanted to overclock.

https://www.gskill.com/product/165/326/1562839299/F4-3600C16D-16GTZNTrident-Z-NeoDDR4-3600MHz-CL16-16-16-36-1.35V16GB-(2x8GB)

If you enable XMP/DOCP and it doesn't post or run the frequency stable, then you're basically F'ed with overclocking.

🤷‍♂️Well, I don't have an issue running XMP. I was just wondering if I could overclock it to maybe 3700 mhz or something. Some people claimed to have done it with the same kit.

Phew that's actually really good to hear. I've seen maybe a dozen posts with this exact kit you have that just won't run XMP. Even with any suggested tweaks.

Anyhow, incremental steps with the least amount of changes possible. That's the starting line. When you hit instability, then you would make changes.

Every system is different, so manually increase the frequency while leaving XMP enabled. See where it takes you. 3733mhz is a decent clock. I've seen decent efficiency with my systems, however only Zen+ and totally different memory kits. Being that, the IF is on lockdown, can only increase SOC to accommodate higher clocks like 3933mhz. Which of course doesn't satisfy my stability testing.

Over-volting do minor amounts. Just to cover the v-droop. The timings at 16-19-19 are loose enough to not need more.

So I stress tested using OCCT. It finished the test, but it also reported a fuck ton of errors. Does that mean its not stable?

Yep

I increased the voltage a little and that fixed the errors with a second stress test. I'm back in business. 😎

Can also disable power down mode.

For better performance tighten Trfc and set write recovery to 8.

In the bios it says trfc, trfc 2, and trfc 4. Which one do I change and what should I change it to? Also where is power down mode? In the bios there is something called gear down mode. Is that it?

You only need to change Trfc1 - the rest leave auto.

Powerdown mode should be next to geardown mode in the sub timings menu.

So in my bios, trfc is at 312. It goes all the way down to 60. Where should I put it at?
