Budget (including currency): 1000$ CAD to 2000$ CAD (see below)

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: New gen adventure games, dual monitor

Hello,

I am looking to pick some tech wizard brains to help me figure out what should do with my PC. I am looking to play pretty much any game, including new gen games (I had games like horizon zero dawn in mind). I don't necessarily want to play in ultra HD but don't want to have to run games on the lowest settings in 2 years. I have very limited knowledge in hardware, I know how to put the parts together and make it work but that's about it.

I built my current computer 10 years ago on a low budget and added some parts over time, here are the specs (I might have forgotten some details, feel free to point out if I'm missing some specs):

-Intel i5-2320 @ 3.00GHz CPU
-Radeon HD 7750 GPU

-Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H motherboard

-8GB RAM (DDR3)

-2Tb HDD

-200Gb SSD

-Corsair CX500 PSU

-A cheap D-Link USB wifi card (I don't think my motherboard has a port for an internal one)

-HAF Cooler Master Case

-Windows 7

Here are the options I am looking at:

-Spend around 1k CAD upgrading my current setup (which parts should I keep and which should I upgrade?)
-I was thinking of upgrading my GPU and picking up 2 more 4GB RAM sticks (I have 2 empty slots). Possibly upgrade my CPU (don't know if mine is good or not) and look for a better Wifi card or maybe add a wifi booster in my room         (occasional lag spikes)

-Build a new PC from scratch since these are all old parts (of course I would bump up the budget, possibly to 2000$ CAD)

-Buy a premade PC (I've read this is a decent option lately considering the cost of GPU's)

I am not in much of a hurry, I have no issue with waiting a few months for the GPU craze to die down if nothing is available at a reasonable price right now, please let me know what you think is the smartest choice to make here..

Thanks in advance

I need to ask are you gonna oc or not?

Hi there. I would most certainly say get atleast 16GB of DDR4 RAM. It could be then worth upgrading your CPU to a 10th gen processor, then go from there. If you need any specific help with that feel free to ask. 🙂

My motherboard supports DDR3 😞 is there a big performance difference between both?

I've never done it. If it's easily (and safely) doable by a newbie like me I am open minded to try, but I'd rather pay extra and have reliability if there is some risk attached to OC'ing

Although it is not necessary I feel like that upgrade would need to be done at sometime. Just try work with your budget but just make sure you don't cheapen out on it. I've actually just remembered that the 10th gen processor requires a LGA1200 socket which obviously supports DDR4 RAM, so I do recommend upgrading your motherboard, along with the RAM and processor but take your time to do that obviously. If you want me to try get a list of possibilities with that upgrade for you, I'm happy to do so.

Yes that would be very nice if you don't mind!

Do you also think the GPU is an important thing to keep in mind or I could play newer games on lower settings with mine until prices return to normal?

Do you have Discord just for easier communication?

Its not always safe or stable and might cause you some problems and it take a long time to oc them and see if they are stable or not , check this rig I think the cooler might be overkill but you can always go to upgrade to get a cheaper cooler , I go with intel 11gen cuz if u wanna wait for the gpu prices to drop and do some light gaming on it cuz the UHD 750 is better than the old gen -UHD650 with 10gen- and if your max is 2000cad then u got like 800cad left for gpu get a 3060ti and that it I think

tell me If I'm wrong or something ,happy to help! : )

That sounds pretty good. I'll check it out, I could save a few more by keeping my SSD/HDD

Thanks!
