minecraft server Minecraft Server. Asking for advice

Budget (including currency): $300 USD, willing to obtain stuff on the used market.

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: A Minecraft Server, however I might use it for other things such as a web server or other game servers in the future. I plan on running a 1.16-1.17 spigot/paper server with multiple plugins with at most 25 consecutive players.

Current Parts: I Already have a 128gb M.2 SSD for the boot drive that I plan on using, I know that this isn't good for the long term but it is a easy upgrade for the future. I also have a old ATX case which I plan on using.

I have all the peripherals already.

I would be upgrading from an intel NUC with a Core i3-8121U @ 2.2ghz, 8gb of ddr4 2400, and a m.2 SSD

So this is the Intel option, I plan on getting the mobo and CPU from the Parkville microcenter. The one disadvantage with the mobo it only has 2 dim slots so if I ever want to upgrade to more memory it wouldn't be as easy.

And the second option I've come up with is the AMD build;

The advantage of this is that there is room for a 4 dim slot mobo, however the Ryzen 3 3200g isn't multithreaded like the i3 10100, and has slightly worse single-threaded performance I think.

So anyways I just want some advice if I'm going on the right route for a Minecraft server and putting my money in the right places. From what I've heard Minecraft servers don't take advantage of multicore and use a lot of memory.

MC servers literally only care about clockspeed, pick your CPU based on which you can OC the highest. You may also need more storage.

 

 

But if this is gonna be a public server (not just for friends or whatever) you shouldn't be hosting it on your own hardware in your own home.
