Budget (including currency): 1k€ ?

Country: Germany

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Development work station

Other details: Should be able to power a SAMSUNG 49" C49RG94SSU  Ultra Wide. At least one half of it.

Hi,

I'm currently rocking an old MBP. It has been enough for daily needs so far, but it's starting to slow down and get on my nerves. Especially that it can't properly power my Samsung C49RG94SSU 49" ultra-wide monitor. So I'm in need for another work station. I want it to be of small form factor, and I was thinking about just leaving out a dedicated GPU for two reasons:

1. Lacking availability

2. I don't see the need for it as it won't be a gaming or rendering machine at all.

This thing will run Linux and will be a development workstation for different code-bases, container stuff, and the likes. YouTube or video playback will probably the most demanding task when it comes to needed graphical power... As the current Ryzen CPUs look nice, but they don't have an  on-board GPU I was building a small system around the 11th gen Intel CPU. I'd appreciate some feedback on compatibility:

PPP-Link:

Questions:

  • Is the case decent, or should I pick a different one in case I want to add a dedicated GPU later?
  • Is going on-board GPU the best scenario when wanting to power said monitor with it?
  • Any other major issues with this build?

If you dont plan on rendering or gaming then an 11700 and z-590 are complete overkill. you could probably get enough cpu power to playback videos with an i5 9th or 10th gen. Personally I love my i5 9600k but even it are kinda overkill. If you EVER plan on gaming now or far in the future 11700 isnt bad as its a pretty fast cpu. But it also has a few issues. IMO you should probably just go with a i5 cpu or maybe even i3. Theres even a chance that a ryzen apu is a good selection and 32 gb of ram kinda feels like overkill.

You should consider getting a bigger case and beefier power supply if you plan on upgrading in the near future. A mid tower and 700W should be decent for future upgrades. As for the igpu, don't expect it to do anything gpu intensive. Anything other than playing back a single 4k video will become an issue.

The case looks pretty good, plenty of space for cable management, airflow. The onboard CPU should be fine granted that it'll just be used for video and display.

I felt like going for the latest and greatest 11th gen Intel CPU and with that the Intel UHD750 graphics would do me good. I want it to be a fast compiling machine, running lots of parallel processes. I need a beefy CPU and tons of threads. I will be stress testing the CPU a lot.

As for the Motherboard it's likely overkill but I didn't find that many decent options on the German PPP..

As for the 32GB of RAM. I don't think so at all. I'm maxing out my 16GB regularly here rn, running multiple virtual machines and other container solutions in parallel. I need that.

The upgrade won't happen in the near future. And I really don't want to have a mid tower anymore. I want something small, nothing fancy. It won't sit on my desk and it wont be a RGB plastered status symbol. It just needs to get the job done tbh.

Onboard GPU will really be used for video and display. No gaming, rendering whatsoever. I just need to handle browsing tasks, video playback and that's it really.

I would actually recommend going with the 10th gen 10700k, its cheaper and 11th gen isn't significantly faster. But if 11th gen is a similar price then go for it.

For me the 11700 is 20€ more than the 10700k right now.

Based on the official intel comparison tool the two CPUs aren't too different:  https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/compare.html?productIds=212279,199335

I'll check benchmarks.
