partial storage disk

Hi,

I've a 1 TB external strorage drive, and i was wondering can i split the disk up into a bootable kali and a normal storage device, and if you can how do you make the drive bootable I've been searching but a only found good tutorials for usb sticks and not disks, i got something very close to the picture.
