VG279QM Issues

The thing with HDMI is that I no longer have the option to overclock it to 280hz

My theory: The panel is probably overclockable to 280 Hz, but HDMI 2.0 doesn't actually have enough bandwidth for 1080p280. (IDK if this is true, I don't have that much time to look up the amount of bandwidth a 1080p280 signal uses).

Kind of a scam, kind of not. If you lower the resolution to something like 9##p or 1000p, can you OC then? If yes, then Asus didn't make a 280 Hz monitor, with 1080p280 connectors (like HDMI 2.1, which the 3070 does support), they made a 280Hz IPS panel, and made a monitor out of it.

So I recently bought the VG279QM 280hz off of amazon. I added it to my additional two other monitor, a 1080p 165hz and a 1440p 165hz monitor. When I first installed it, the max hz I could go up to was 144hz. I unplugged my other monitors and nothing changed. So then I overclocked the monitor to 280 and force changed it via Nvidia Control panel. I was able to overclock it, but there were some crazy flickering issues and black out issues. It occured almost once every 5-10 minutes. So naturally, I stopped the overclock and went back to 240hz. However, the same issue presents even with 240hz, so guess what, I went to 144hz.  i would keep going back and forth with the hz change for the next 3 days. I want to be able to use 280hz without flickering or blacking out, any help?

Specs if it will help:

ryzen 7 3700x

32 gb 3200hz ram

rtx 3070

asus b550-a

I mean, the monitor isn't rated for 280 Hz, just 240 Hz, but they suggest OCing it up to 280 Hz.

Also it doesn't support 240 Hz when connected via DP, only HDMI, as stated on ASUS's website. The DP is v1.2, which is recommend for 1080p144. But it also has 2 HDMI 2.0 connectors. You may have to go around rearranging your inputs and cables to fix this.

But you also never stated what kind of cable you were using between the 3070 and the new monitor. Can you fix that?

Fuck you scalpers, fuck you scammers, fuck all of you jerks that charge way too much to tech-illiterate people.

Unless I say I am speaking from experience or can confirm my expertise, assume it is an educated guess.

Sorry, my bad. I was told to use the display port cable in order to maximize the hzs. I am using the Displayport cable that came inside of the box, not too sure what version (i think 1.2), but all my other friends uses it and they seem fine with 280hz. Update: i just changed to the HDMI cable, the 240hz option was given, and its already working well. If there are no issues the next hour, then I believe the issue is solved. Thank you
