So I recently bought a second monitor (144 hz 2k ) and after a bit of using it i saw my gpu temp going like 83 - 84c overload and it never happened to me with my other (144hz full hd) monitor, I was wondering if the high temps were because of the switch from full hd to 2k and now having 2 144hz monitor (maybe its too much for the gpu to handle) or there can be an other problem?

also I was wondering if adding 1 or 2 fans to my case can maybe help lowering those temps

pc spec -

antec P8

I7 8700k
1080 ti turbo

Thank you for Helping!

have 1 or two more 144hz panel that have nothing running on them will not put any significant load on your GPU

increased resolution = increased load on gpu = it might need to work harder than before (might, because you may be CPU limited before this and it doesnt need to work as hard)

resulting in higher temps, which i would say is expected

i would suggest opening up your side panel and see if temps improve without your side panel

this is to determine if your case has sufficient airflow, and make sure the fans are spinning while you're at it

if temps didnt improve by much (say, ~10c)

is the card dusty? when's the last time you repasted it? are you comfortable handling hardware?

first of all thank you very much for answering.

second, I didn't repast my gpu ever and I have this computer for about 3 years so I don't know if the card itself is dusty but I cleaned my pc 2 days ago to see if it would help temps and it didn't so I don't really know what else to do other then repasting.

and no I dont handle hardware very often.

and also what do you mean about CPU limit?

and lets say the temps didn't improve by much with me opening the side panel what else can it be?

If your cpu is too slow for the tasks at hand your gpu will have a decreased load.

I would also check background processes. Maybe something else uses the gpu?

So I just played some games with no side case panel and there is nearly 0 diff between with or without it.

so I guess its a problem either with the Gpu itself or just the thermal paste gone bad?

yea

you could try repasting it if you're comfortable handling hardware

you could try dusting it first if it's dusty, see if that helps any before repasting

that said, the turbo card is a blower card so they're generally higher in temps than normal cards

but i reckon it's just dusty

the other day I was cleaning my pc to see if it helps the temps I used a compressed air can and I tried doing some in the GPU and around it but I dont think that did anything.

Is there an easier way to clean the GPU without risk?

given it's a blower, you pretty much have to disassemble it

but you can blow the compressed air from the back of the card (where the video ports are) to the front, make sure the fan doesnt spin

the dust clumps might've been block by the fan though, so a full disassembly is pretty much required

just one more quick question, if cleaning the GPU and repasting doesn't work as I expect.

is adding 1 or 2 fans will help the GPU temp?

Thank you very much you have been very helpful btw!

if opening your side psnel doesnt help, that would signify no matter how much airflow is in the case, it wont help much

if you can fit more fans in your case ofc they will help deffo. 80ish c isn't thaaat bad anyway tho
