I've bought some pc parts for my friend and I'm building them a computer.

The parts are a:

Ryzen 5 5600x

Asrock B450 Pro4

GTX 1080

750W PSU

2TB HDD

120GB SSD

16GB of 3200 RAM

And now for the past 2 days I've been trying to troubleshoot but i didn't get it to work.

The fans spin up and the gpu sends a signal to my monitor for like a short second, but i see no start up screen or anything. My keyboard doesn't light up either. It just runs for like 30seconds then it turns off and restarts.

I've checked and all the parts seem to be fine. It doesn't beep or do anything it just gets into a bootloop.

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated thank you.

Likely a BIOS update is needed. The old B450s don't come with a BIOS compatible with the 5600X. You may need to borrow a really cheap like Ryzen 3 or even Athalon in order to update unless your motherboard supports BIOS flashing with nothing but the mobo and PSU.

Like I know MSI boards have that feature, because it just saved my ass after the MSI Dragon Center fucked my ass. Just not sure about ASRock.

Fuck you scalpers, fuck you scammers, fuck all of you jerks that charge way too much to tech-illiterate people.

Unless I say I am speaking from experience or can confirm my expertise, assume it is an educated guess.

Current setup: Ryzen 5 3600, MSI MPG B550, 2x8GB DDR4-3200, RX 5600 XT (+120 core, +320 Mem), 1TB WD SN550, 1TB Team MP33, 2TB Seagate Barracuda Compute, 500GB Samsung 860 Evo, Corsair 4000D Airflow, 650W 80+ Gold. Razer peripherals.

Also have a Alienware Alpha R1: i3-4170T, GTX 860M (≈ a 750 Ti). 2x4GB DDR3L-1600, Crucial MX500

My past and current projects: VR Flight Sim: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/nathanpete/saved/#view=dG38Jx (Done!)

A do it all server for educational use: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/nathanpete/saved/#view=vmmNcf (Cancelled)

Find your mobo's manual and see the steps for updating the BIOS via USB. If there is a section explaining how to do it just by plugging in the motherboard to the PSU, then plugging in a USB stick into a certain port, then pressing a button, follow that section. If there isn't, well then you may need to go asking around to borrow a really cheap AM4 processor for a couple hours.

This is what I found in the lil book but I'm not sure how to do it because I've also read that i can brick my board if i do it wrong.

The whole point of a way to flash a BIOS with no other components installed is to revive a bricked board. I just tried to update my BIOS from within Windows by using the MSI Dragon Center. But that app is a piece of shit and when windows shut down my mobo was bricked because the update failed. Lucky for me, after watching a few youtube guides because the ones from MSI's channels were missing some important info, I was able to successfully flash the newest BIOS on like my 4th attempt.

The feature is designed to give you a huge amount of attempts (until the BIOS chips wear out from too many writes, but that is A LOT) to revive a bricked BIOS.

Also the picture doesn't offer anything useful. Look through the table of contents for a section on updating the BIOS and flip to that page and take a high res photo of the whole page. Or if you can just link the PDF of the manual that ASRock provides on their product page and tell us which page to go to, that would be better.

With a budget board like yours I think you will need a older CPU to update the BIOS. See if you can get an older one or like a loaned one. If you have to buy one go for a cheap AM4 one thats on the motherboard page's CPU Support List. Maybe you can sell it after to make back some money.

This is the product website. I've went through the manual but didn't find anything about updating the bios.

It looks like the BIOS updated successfully, and the Ryzen 5600X is being recognized.

You are also able to make it into the UEFI BIOS menu as well.
